When I came out I was at a restaurant and was waiting for my food with my parents. I decided to come out a bit early. Keep in mind that I had tried to come out to my dad before but didn’t have the courage to, and I grew up in a straight environment. So I grabbed a piece of paper and drew my pride flag. I had my dad and stepmom guess the flag. So I think they got the hint. (F/12/Pansexual)

When I came out I told my non-binary friend and asked for advice on how to tell my family. They were so supportive and I felt like someone understood me. Tonight I told my sister, but my mom walked in on us hugging and wanted to know what was wrong. I hesitantly told her with fear that she wouldn’t understand, but she was so accepting. We all hugged and cried and now I finally feel free after months of anxiety. (F/Pansexual)

When I came out to my best friend, I said I was pansexual and she said, “Yeah lol me too welcome to the club” and then like 3 days later this guy comes up to us and says, “Hey so like you’re both les or something, are you guys dating?” and we looked at each other and were like, “No, we’re just friends” and then the dude that asked us said, “With BENEFITS” and f*ckin sprinted away. When I came out, it was to my brother at the hotel of Holiday Inn with nobody around. I told him I wasn’t straight and I was pansexual, and he got worked up. He said, “You should learn to love the right way! Please don’t do this… Gay people are depressed as f*ck and commit suicide, and I don’t want to lose you, please…” and I just told him to forget about the conversation. One day I will be with my lover, and they can get rid of me. I’ll be happier with the one I truly love, not my homophobic family. (FtM/13/Pansexual/Trans)

When I came out it was a complete accident! I was an admin on an LGBTQ+ account and my friend stumbled across the account and asked me about it. I told him that I was pansexual and he came out to me as gay! (M/13/Pansexual)

When I came out I was super scared and didn’t know how to tell my parents, so naturally I told my friends and they were all really supportive. I even told my crush who is FtM transgender, which all I got back was that he’s into guys so sucks for me lol but I ended up telling my parents and they were a little confused to what pansexual meant but they accepted me for who I was no matter what. I’m so glad I told them because now the weight is lifted off my shoulders and I’m free to be myself! (F/17/Pansexual)

When I came out, I came out to my BFF in 6th grade (last year) at an after-school party as bisexual. She was very supportive, in fact we’re even closer now. Now I drift between bisexual and pansexual; I’m also questioning my gender identity. I plan to come out to my other friends next week. I don’t plan to come out to my religious and homophobic parents anytime soon. (12/Bisexual/Pansexual/Gender Non-Conforming)

When I came out to my friends my life changed. They accepted me fully and I feel like a huge stone was removed from my chest, like I can finally breathe. I’m planning on telling my parents next. Wish me luck! (F/12/Pansexual)

When I came out to my mom this morning, I made her play a guessing game until she guessed, “Do you have a girlfriend?” I stood there and smiled and she said okay, but told me I was going to change my mind someday. She also told me that there are so many people around that are part of the LGBTQ+ community around us, even our neighbors! I’m just waiting to tell my dad. (F/11/Pan)

When I came out to my mom as pan about a year ago, I was terrified, even though I knew she’s always been very open to everyone’s opinions and sexualities. I was so anxious that I messaged her instead of telling her face to face. I just messaged her that I had a girlfriend and that I thought I’m pansexual. She, as always, was very open about it and she never talked to me about it again. She hasn’t even treated me differently.
