Story #1463

When I came out my “parents” basically kicked me out and blamed my cousin (who is also gay) and her parents for it. My aunt and uncle adopted me. Story #1449

When I came out for the first time in real offline life, it was to my college friends. They were talking about how flamboyant some LGBT people are and they were getting kinda homophobic, so I got a bit angry and I just said, “Guys, but actually I’m gay…” When I realised what I just did, I started shaking, but they didn’t even care and they said that they understood not all of us were like that. I felt like I was freed from a really heavy weight. I still can’t believe it was that easy.

Story #1444

When I came out it didn’t go so well. I was with a girl at the time and wanted to break things off. Then my parents knew something was up and read my phone. And I lied but it was way too obvious. My dad stopped talking to me and my whole family looks and reacts to me being gay as a disgusting, abnormal thing. (F/15/Gay)

Story #1442

When I came out, it was to my stepbrother, who at the time was temporarily deaf. I asked him if we could walk over to Portillos to get dinner. After a little bit of small talk over our food, I told him that I had to tell him something important. I stalled for another 5-10 minutes before signing “I’M G-A-Y” under the table. He was pretty shocked, but still gave me a fist pump and got me a cake shake.

Story #1436

When I came out I told three of my friends. After that all four of us have become even closer as friends. Later I told my parents but they didn’t take it so well. After coming out I realized that I had feelings towards my straight best friend and told him about my feelings. Then he told me I knew it was not going to happen and that I should not worry because nothing would change. (17/Gay)

Story #1435

When I came out to my mother she told me she would always love me no matter what and that it’s my personal choice. Later the same day, she talked to me and convinced herself I couldn’t be gay and that it was all a joke because it was not accepted in her religion. Deep down I know that she knows it was true and that she has always known it and is just in denial. (20/Gay)

Story #1432

When I came out I was at an amusement park. My mom has two children, and my brother is gay and came out a year ago. I asked my friend how my mom would react if she found out both her kids were gay. She got the message, and it went well.

Story #1429

When I came out for the first time it was to my best friend (she is a girl and I’m a boy). Since I had already tried so many times, I told her by text I needed to talk about a secret so she went mad and the day after she came at my house. Before I could even speak she told me, “I have thought about this for long and I’m afraid that you are going to tell me you are gay. Is it true?” I said yes and that I had wanted to tell her for long. She started to laugh, then turned angry and told me, “Why have you waited for so long? I’ve always wanted a gay best friend!!”

Story #1417

When I came out to my best friend, we were finishing homework in the closet of the science lab at school. Halfway through class, our teacher yelled, “Come out of the closet.” I promptly turned to my friend and whispered, “I’m gay.” She laughed until she realized I was serious, then smiled and gave me a thumbs up. She’s been so supportive ever since. (F/15)
