Story #1580

When I came out, I wasn’t even planning on doing it for at least 2 more years, since I’ve known I since I was 10 (and I was 12 when I came out to my mom) but I was afraid no one would take me seriously. I was sitting with my mom, and she said that she was going to help out at our city’s pride parade, which I didn’t think was too big of a deal since she’s very liberal. That’s when she told me that she was bi, and I just started crying. She looked concerned, and I could barely get out the words “me too” before we both started hugging and crying for what seemed like hours. We saw the movie Love, Simon the other day, and she told me how lucky I am to be growing up at a time when there are people like me in major movies.

Story #1579

When I came out to my best mom, she was confused and we cried together on the floor of my room. She said she was torn because of our religion. Eight months later, she brought it up again for the first time and was super accepting. She even found an accepting church for us to go to. (M/14/Gay)

Story #1578

When I came out last month to my mother, she was surprised but supportive. Knowing that I can’t come out to anyone else as I live in a homophobic country where it isn’t supported much, I was happy. From Latvia (M/13)

Story #1577

“When I came out” doesn’t seem like the right term to use about my experience with my parents. I honestly don’t remember ever coming out with them. I think I was just very honest about my feelings towards love and men as they developed, and we went through the process of figuring it all out together. (M/22/Gay)

Story #1576

When I came out to my best friend, he was super, super supportive! He told me that he was fine with it and won’t tell anyone if I didn’t want him to. We still talk about it a little since I haven’t told many others. He has been amazing about the whole thing and I can’t thank him enough!

Story #1575

When I came out I just got back from seeing Love, Simon. I was really empowered and told my dad in the car that I liked boys and girls. He said it wasn’t the best timing but he accepted me. My close friends already know. (F/14/Bisexual)

Story #1574

When I came out to my family, I asked my mom if we could talk, and that’s how it started. I asked my mom what she would do if one of her kids were gay. She told me, “Honey, I would be supportive.” Then that’s when it hit me. She loves us no matter the situation.

Story #1573

When I came out to my cousin it went something like this. He hit my chin and started counting and I hit my chin again and he said, “You’re 11% gay.” I said I was a lot more than 11%.

Story #1572

When I came out to my best friend it was on a Twitter DM. I had jokingly made a comment about how I would never have a boyfriend, and she responded by asking me if it was my way of telling her I was into girls. I couldn’t lie to her. Unfortunately she went on to tell me it was ok “as long as I didn’t like everybody.” (I’m bi.) I told her that and she told me it was ok, she didn’t think I was “greedy” or anything. And I think she is ok with it; we haven’t really talked about it again.

Story #1571

When I came out to two of my best friends, I wasn’t even planning on doing it. One of them is a lesbian, and the other one knew about this already, and convinced the first friend to come out to me on a whim. I hugged her and came out as pansexual, and my other friend came out as bi. Still not out to my parents, but out to a few people at my school. (Non-binary/14/Demiromantic Pansexual)
