Story #1585

When I came out I was 14 and my friend asked me if I was asexual because I have never had crush on a guy. I told her I thought that I was a lesbian, and she was not surprised and said she thought she was bi. I felt a weight lift off my shoulders.

Story #1584

When I came out to my “straight” best friend, it was after we watched Love, Simon. I finally had the courage to tell him I’m bisexual but before I could talk, he came out to me as bisexual first. We both had a crush on each other thinking the other was straight. Happily dating! (M/Bisexual)

Story #1583

When I came out, I was scared that my friends would judge me. They knew about my sexuality and gender identity, but being polyamorous isn’t normally socially acceptable. But the friends I told were super supportive! (15/Pan/nb/polyam)

Story #1581

When I came out, it was to two of my best friends and I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I’ve come out to more friends since I went to college but am afraid to come out to my parents because I live in a small town and people aren’t very open-minded. (M/20/Gay)

Story #1580

When I came out, I wasn’t even planning on doing it for at least 2 more years, since I’ve known I since I was 10 (and I was 12 when I came out to my mom) but I was afraid no one would take me seriously. I was sitting with my mom, and she said that she was going to help out at our city’s pride parade, which I didn’t think was too big of a deal since she’s very liberal. That’s when she told me that she was bi, and I just started crying. She looked concerned, and I could barely get out the words “me too” before we both started hugging and crying for what seemed like hours. We saw the movie Love, Simon the other day, and she told me how lucky I am to be growing up at a time when there are people like me in major movies.

Story #1579

When I came out to my best mom, she was confused and we cried together on the floor of my room. She said she was torn because of our religion. Eight months later, she brought it up again for the first time and was super accepting. She even found an accepting church for us to go to. (M/14/Gay)

Story #1578

When I came out last month to my mother, she was surprised but supportive. Knowing that I can’t come out to anyone else as I live in a homophobic country where it isn’t supported much, I was happy. From Latvia (M/13)

Story #1577

“When I came out” doesn’t seem like the right term to use about my experience with my parents. I honestly don’t remember ever coming out with them. I think I was just very honest about my feelings towards love and men as they developed, and we went through the process of figuring it all out together. (M/22/Gay)

Story #1576

When I came out to my best friend, he was super, super supportive! He told me that he was fine with it and won’t tell anyone if I didn’t want him to. We still talk about it a little since I haven’t told many others. He has been amazing about the whole thing and I can’t thank him enough!
