When I came out, I had been chatting with one of my friends on Skype, and somehow the conversation had shifted into her ranting about how she hates “people like that.” I was trying to convince her to show some empathy, but when that failed, I just told her I was bi. She hung up and went offline. :/ I told my family and my other friends so that they wouldn’t hear about it through her. My friendship with her pretty much ended that day, but a few years later we spoke again, and she apologized for how she had treated me and told me she had since distanced herself from her parents’ beliefs. Story #1613
When I came out, it was an unplanned announcement, but I’m glad I did it. A few days ago I was hanging out with one of my best friends doing what guys do. Going in, I hadn’t planned on telling him that I was bisexual but by the end of the night I felt a sudden urge to say something. His response made me feel happier and less alone than I’ve felt in a long time: “Me too, man.”
Story #1608
When I came out as bisexual it was to a pansexual friend instead of my best friend because she was more trustworthy and she was part of LGBTQ+. She took it well as expected. A week later I told my best friend; he also, which I thank the world for, took it awesomely but as always teased me! He came out as bisexual a week later to me. This made me happy because little does he know I like him. (M/Bisexual)
Story #1605
When I came out I had a very good experience. I’m a divorced guy who came out late in life. I posted it on Facebook! I was terrified about what the response would be but I had at least 18 people contact me and tell me how proud they were of me.
Story #1603
When I came out to my mom, she said she was okay with it and that she suspected it anyway. Despite that, I feel regretful for telling her. I don’t know why. (M/17/Gay)
Story #1599
When I came out to my mother and father most of my friends already knew. I told my parents separately. My mother said that I was going to hell and grounded me and my dad said that he didn’t accept. They keep on taking me to priests and pastors trying to change me. I hope it gets better soon. (M/15/Gay)
Story #1598
When I came out it was very rushed as I just sent a screenshot of my results in a gay test saying, “You’re 100% gay!”, and my friends did take me seriously. They’re cool with it but I don’t think I’ll come out to my parents. (M/17/Gay)
Story #1596
When I came out, I posted a random thing on my story of me literally coming out of a closet. A few people actually figured it out, and everyone at school has gone out of their way to let me know nothing has changed. Still haven’t come out to my family. (M/16/Gay)
Story #1592
When I came out to my mother, my brother already knew. It was a previous event where he asked the reason I play girls in games. We were in the kitchen and my mother was talking about grandchildren, and he said I don’t want kids and I wouldn’t have any because I am gay. She looked at me for a second and I nodded, then she said, “I knew it since you were a kid.”
Story #1591
When I came out to my family, I was already out to the majority of people I knew in school. Their support gave me the confidence to come out to them. I came out to my aunt first, over text, and left a letter for my mum to read the next morning. She texted me later saying she was proud of me, and that she already had suspicions about it. (M/17/Gay)
