When I came out my mom looked at me and said that I’m not her daughter anymore and kicked my ass out of the house. Pls for all the closeted people pls don’t come out with homophobic parents! (F/16/Lesbian)
Story #2204
When I came out I first had told my parents and friends that I was bi. But then I realized I was lesbian and bigender. So I was in the closet for a few months, and then today I told my dad and stepmom! They were fully supportive, and said that I don’t need to label myself. I’m scared to tell my mom because she thinks I’m LGBTQ+ because I think it’s “trendy” and I’m scared she might say that it’s just a phase or something. (She/they/11/Bigender and lesbian)

When I came out I was at my grandparents’ house. My granny was talking about how “all gays go to hell, ” so I got up and walked away. My dad asked where I was going and I replied with “to hell, apparently.” (F/15/Lesbian)

When I came out to my parents, I didn’t come out, I was forced out. My mum and I don’t have the best relationship, so we don’t talk very much. Because of this my mum doesn’t trust me all that much. Well, one day my mum decided that I have to be hiding something so took my phone and went through it, reading EVERYTHING. She found out about my girlfriend and my identity. The first thing she did was kick me out, then, after about an hour, she let me back in. We talked — meaning she yelled at me — for about two hours and that was that. It was rarely mentioned again apart from the occasional ‘well-meaning’ homophobic comment. (Non-binary/16/Lesbian asexual)

When I came out to my sister two months ago, she kind of just shrugged it off at first. She then squealed and hugged me saying that she already knew and kind of guessed it. She’s had my back since then and I’m lucky to have her! She’s 11 now and loves drawing Pride art for me. (F/13/Lesbian)

When I came out I knew my parents would accept me. So I just told them about how my friend assumed I liked her, and when my parents asked why I told them I liked girls. My mom said it didn’t matter and just told me I was too young for a relationship. It went really well. (F/11/Lesbian/gay)

When I came out as lesbian I told my best friend first and then she told me she was bi. So I told my family and close friends and they were all super supportive! I recently told my whole class and 4 more people came out to me. I am fully embracing myself and who I am and excited to keep sharing who I am with people! (F/13/Lesbian)

When I came out I felt awkward. I had previously come out as asexual, only to realize I’m an aromantic lesbian. My mum guessed it, but I still feel like she doesn’t accept me. (F/14)

When I came out was very strange because I came out to my sister and I was very scared. She said, “That’s alright,” and I was like, “Wow.” She doesn’t like me that much, but she was very nice this time. I am from Poland and we have a very homophobic country and government. So now I am very happy with who I am, but sometimes is difficult. Wish me luck! ( : (F/14/Lesbian)

When I came out my aunt threatened to send me to a conversion camp. My mom acted as if she supported me but something was always off about her reaction; she ended up telling the whole family, which wasn’t her responsibility. My dad heard it from my mum and tried to get me drunk so I would tell him myself; either way he wasn’t supportive. When I came out to my friends they all walked away; I was alone again. But ended up meeting my now girlfriend who loves and supports me no matter who I am. Trust me; things will get better 💖 (Non-binary/14/Lesbian)
