Story #1531

When I (a lesbian) came out to a girl I was just starting to become friends with, I casually mentioned not being straight and she had the best “no reaction because it’s obviously okay” reaction I could’ve dreamed of. We’re getting to know each other better and I feel blessed that someone knows so early into our friendship and genuinely wants to become friends, isn’t afraid that I will have a crush on her, etc. It makes me believe in “it gets better.”

Story #1530

When I came out… I instantly denied it! I said, “Dad, I am straight!” “Mmm-hmmm.” He didn’t believe me. Now I am fully out, and happier than ever because my family are huge LGBTQIA+ supporters. (F/14, USA)

Story #1529

When I came out to my mom as a lesbian, first she said she’d love me no matter what. But then later, she didn’t believe me and told me that my homosexuality is just a phase. Nowadays she asks me when I’m gonna get a boyfriend like if I hadn’t ever come out to her.

Story #1525

When I came out to my best friend I was too scared to do it in person so I texted him a picture of the girl I had a crush on and said, “shes hot”. He responded with “d8?” and I proceeded by telling him how she was probably straight and how I always ended up liking straight girls. A couple weeks later he asked me if I was bisexual and I said yes.

Story #1524

When I came out to my crush (also one of my best friends), she texted back: “ok cool. I kind of already knew that”. Then later she asked if I liked her, to which I replied “yes”. It was awkward for about two weeks, but we are as close as ever now. My family and all my other friends took it very well.

Story #1519

When I came out my girlfriend just told everyone that we’re a couple in school and since then people have been treating me slightly differently but they’re still supportive. I like it the way it is, even though some stupid comments still get me sometimes. (F/15)

Story #1513

When I came out to my friends one of them said, “Me too” and another ran away laughing at me. Now she says, “People who like the same gender are stupid,” and another one said, “OHHHH” and the other day one of the friends I came out to went up to my new friend and said, “[My name] is bisexual” and my new friend said, “No she’s not” and laughed… (F/11/Bisexual)

Story #1506

When I came out, it was bisexuality awareness day of 2017 and I told my mom to guess what day it was. She couldn’t guess so I said that it’s the day that people acknowledge that I exist! We then had a talk about it, while driving to see a play, and she was super accepting, saying that she was glad I was comfortable with myself. (F/14)
