When I came out, I wasn’t really accepted at first. My parents weren’t homophobic or anything, but I felt like they didn’t believe me. I had lots of friend groups and I never really felt like they ever really respected me. The first time I really felt seen and accepted, we had just gotten to the second half of the school year and my lunch schedule changed. I saw some kids I thought might be cool to hang out with and asked if I could sit with them. It turned out that one of them was aromantic and the other was genderfluid and omnisexual. At that point I kinda went “me too!”. They were really cool about it and it made me happy that it wasn’t being treated like a phase or something anymore. Since then I’ve had some great support systems, which has really helped me through some stuff. (Genderfluid/pangender/Aegosexual/biromantic)
Story #2547
When I came out to my parents in middle school as just gay (they don’t know terms) they were somewhat supportive, but my dad was not sure. He went on a walk with me and basically said you’re probably not gay, because you are just desperate to fit in and your friends are gay so you think you are. I believed him, and so during lockdown I went back to “being straight” and then I had to re-come out to myself in high school. I now understand myself more and I have come out to a few close friends, who have all been super supportive of me. They are even helping me with my crush right now!!! I am going to ask her to prom 🙂 (F/17/Biromantic asexual)
Story #2534
When I came out, two of my friends knew that I was bi and one of them knew I was trans at the time. I created this “about me” test and the winner got money. I let my two friends take it first, and then THOUGHT I turned off the setting after that said “reveal correct answers”, but I obviously didn’t. So, I let my homophobic Christian friend take the quiz and WHAT DO YOU KNOW he submitted it and on the question that said, “What is your biggest secret?”, it said in big letters: “YOU’RE BI” and “YOU’RE NOT A GIRL”. I was so embarassed, I told him some of the answers were fakes the trick him but now every time I play a game with my friends, one of my friends always puts in as my name: “KJ LOVES AMITY” (from The Owl House, also, my fictional crush, another question on the quiz.) Well, there went my shot at my homophobic friend believing me! (M/12/Biromantic/asexual/FtM)
Story #2442
When I came out the first time, I was convinced I was bi. Later, after a LOT of soul-searching, I realized that my definition of “sexual attraction” was completely different from the standard. Apparently, people don’t just find others aesthetically appealing, they also feel an urge to have sex with them? My world was turned upside-down, but I started feeling like the word “asexual” really resonated with my experiences. Coming out for the second time has been great, and to my surprise, everyone was extremely supportive. A lot of questions typically follow when aces come out, but it’s also kinda fun to explain it to people 🙂 (M/23/Asexual Gray-Biromantic)
Story #2367
When I came out as non-binary, I texted my mum while I was with my friends. It has been stressful but everyone is really supportive and they all try their best to remember my pronouns and new name. I am also out to my friends as asexual/biromantic — they asked me to explain what it meant and once they understood they were both really nice about it. Things are going well now and I’m starting an LGBTQ+ youth group this week, and I plan to tell my parents about my sexuality within a few days 🙂 (Non-binary/13/Asexual/biromantic)

When I came out to my best male friend, he didn’t get what I was trying to say. Ten minutes later, he said he was extremely proud of me and went on to tell me that one of my best friend’s twin brother is asexual, which I did not know. My friend also said I get double the power. Omg. (She/they/14/Bi/ace)

When I came out to my friend she supported me :)) I know I should probably write more, but I love my friend a lot and I’m just glad she supports me (Genderqueer/agender/15/Aroace biromantic)
Story #2253
When I came out it was to a group of internet friends, I told them I was bisexual. Fast-forward 3 COVID lockdowns and a lot of time to think and you have one Biromantic Demisexual Bigender Teen. I am out at school as bisexual. I am not confident enough to come out as bigender though; doing so makes me feel like I would be forever stuck in that box. The dysphoria hits hard and I have had many a sleepless night. Hopefully things improve. Mum and Dad are good people but they don’t know much about the LGBTQ community. Wish me luck? ;D (Bigender/14/Biromantic demisexual)
Story #2247
When I came out as asexual I was 12, and all my friends were bi/gay/lesbian so I knew it would be fine. So I went up to my best friend (who’s gay) and said, “I’m asexual.” She acted really shocked and said being asexual was a medical illness and you had to be “diagnosed” at a hospital. Then a year or so later I came out as non-binary and my friends still didn’t believe me. However, I met a new group consisting of enbys, aces and gays and now we’re all besties! Story #2193
When I came out to my friends, it was in 5th or 6th grade. In 4th grade, a girl came to our school. I thought she was reeaallyy pretty. She had dark brown hair, freckles, and blue green eyes. I will not name her. I told my friends I like her, and nothing really changed. They tried to “set us up”, which failed. It was adorable though. (Demigirl/13/Biromantic/asexual)
