Story #1763

When I came out, it was to my older cousin. She suspected that I might be gay and told me that I had to find out what I like. I had to tell the girl who I was dating at the time. She was happy that I was being true to myself. The thing that helps me the most is that my father accepts it and loves me regardless. (M/18/Gay)

Story #1762

When I came out to my friend, I didn’t really come out. We were just talking and we slowly discovered together our sexuality. I guess I needed someone to help me understand myself. Now I’m a lesbian and she’s bi. (F/18/Lesbian)

Story #1761

When I came out it was to my best friend at university. I’d just learnt about his relationship and decided to open up to him. He was incredibly supportive and is now helping come out to the rest of my friends and family. (M/21/Gay)

Story #1760

When I came out to my friend, I had been casually dropping hints for months. I never would have guessed that she was going through the exact same thing, and having her there to understand really lifted a weight off my shoulders. I told my best friend that I liked her and she treated me no different than before. I never thought she would be so understanding. (F/13)

Story #1759

When I came out it was to a girl I had just meet. We were avoiding having to do any actual exercise at P.E and I just blurted it out. It felt so good to get that off my chest and she gave me so much support. Telling some of my closer friends and mother was different, but I am so glad about the love I got from the real friends in my life. Coming out has really helped me embrace and love myself and others around me. (F/15/Pansexual)

Story #1758

When I came out I was 13 and my only friends were church friends because I was home-schooled. Due to me being home-schooled I felt alone, I had no one to talk to about what I was going through, and I felt I couldn’t tell any of my church friends because I was scared how they would take it. I was not ready to lose the only friends I had. But one day one of my friends was telling me in private that she had feelings for another girl. Then suddenly I jumped out of my seat, turned to her, and said, “Thank God you said that because I’m gay.” (M/15/Gay)

Story #1757

When I came out it was to a small group of friends. One of my friends came out to us as bi, and I, without realising, just blurted out, “Oh yeah, me too.” They were really accepting and sweet, and me and my bi friend just talked about our crushes. I wish my parents will give the same reaction when I tell them in the near future. (F/13/Bisexual)

Story #1756

When I came out I had two major coming out days. The first was on Valentine’s Day and I think it went well, though I just told her half the story. On the 27th, I came out to my GSA club, and I was shaking but felt free. I identify as bi-pan romantic, asexual, and non-binary. An inside joke all of us at GSA share is that we identify as Sand—Socially Awkward Nerdy Dramatic—you can use the term too, I guess. Rest of the world and family, you are next! (NB/13/Bi-pan-romantic/asexual)

Story #1755

When I came out it was because my friends all saw a contact on my phone with a love heart emoji (my secret boyfriend). All my friends were asking who she was, and I just said to one of my closest friends, “It’s a guy,” and she was so supportive and we talked and she’s helping me come out to everyone else. Thanks so much x (M/17/Gay)

Story #1754

When I came out, I told my mom in the night that I’m gay. She was very supportive and told me that she will always love me. I didn’t come out to my dad because I think that he doesn’t understand. (M/15/Gay)
