When I came out today I had been trying to tell my mom for days. I’m a 27-year-old female and have been denying my feelings for a long time. I was on a bike ride when she called and heard me crying and asked what’s wrong. I kept saying how I didn’t want her to hate me or resent me and finally I told her while I sobbed. She told me she kind of figured and was incredibly supportive. (F/27/Gay)
Story #1559
When I came out to my best friend, I was quite afraid of telling him because we are very close and we have something like a bromance even though he has a girlfriend, so I thought that he would be scared if he knew that I’m gay because of our relationship. He was the first person I told, and he finally was very supportive and nice to me. He said that it would not change anything and that he loves me and is happy for me if I am happy. I love him. Story #1558
When I came out to my friends, they whispered, “I knew it.” Then they asked me who I liked. Probably the funniest and most traumatizing thing I have gone through lol (:
Story #1557
When I came out I realized that my parents already knew. When I told my sister I finally came out, she said, “They already knew.” I was crying so nervous over my breakfast and they just said, “Okay, so how’s your toast?” Biggest relief ever. (F/16/Bi)
Story #1556
When I came out to my friends a few months ago, they were so supportive to me. The problem for me was coming out my family, and I was raised with strict values. A few days ago I came out to my sister in an emotional conversation on a walk. I thought she wouldn’t accept me, but I was wrong; coming out to her made our relationship stronger. She asked me who I had a crush on and I had to tell her — best decision I have made.

When I came out to one of my best friends she got really quiet. I ended up apologizing for making her uncomfortable. I wish I didn’t do that. (M/19/Gay)
Story #1554
When I came out, it was to my mom. She told me that “it was okay to be confused.” She then told me (with different wording) that it was a phase, and I wouldn’t be that way when I’m older. That was two years ago. (F/13/Lesbian)
Story #1553
When I came out to my brother recently, we were already having an emotional talk, and he asked me. He had before, but I shrugged it off. This time I just broke down. He hugged me and told me everything would be OK. (M/16/Gay)
Story #1552
When I came out, I was in the car with my mum and she didn’t say anything. Then I heard her quietly say, “Another thing for attention??” I started crying and she did too. She says she accepts me but that doesn’t always seem to be the case… (FtM/16/Trans)
Story #1551
When I came out, I was 15 years old, and it was late in my room to a good friend who also was my crush. We had a conversation about sex; that’s how I told him, but I didn’t tell him I liked him — still haven’t. (M/Gay)
