When I came out my junior year of high school, I knew it was time. I was sitting at my desk in my room doing homework and talking to a friend online when she asked me, “What is actually stopping you from coming out to your family?” I thought about it for a few moments, got up from my desk, walked calmly to the living room, called a family meeting and simply said, “I’m gay, guys.” After a half hour discussion, I went peacefully back to my room to finish my work.
