When I came out to my dad, I was already 33 years old and a Roman Catholic priest. A week later, I told my brothers. A month later, I posted a coming out photo on Facebook. Years later, I’m still a priest and an out and proud advocate for LGBT+ rights.

When I came out, my dad walked out of the room and my mom told me that I should pray and talk to my pastor at church to find out why I’m gay. Later that night, my dad came back in my room and told me he still loves me and he needs time to adjust, as well as my mom and grandmother. Everyone said they weren’t 100% surprised but now I feel awkward even being in the house with them. But honestly I’m glad that I don’t have to hide anything anymore. (M/18/Gay)

When I came out I was drunk at my friend’s house. We were playing truth or dare and I told him I didn’t like girls but boys. He was surprised to say the least but he didn’t support me. We still don’t talk to each other. Now I’m scared to tell my best friend. I’m pretty sure he will accept me but I’m not willing to take the chance and lose another friend.

When I came out, my mom cried. I told her over a year ago, and she started crying. She went on about how she wanted grandkids, and basically told me not to tell anyone. I’m gonna come out to her and her side of the family again soon. (M/15/Gay)

When I came out, I told my best friend first. I thought I was gay at the time, but I now realize I’m bi. She was incredibly supportive and I love her for that. (Trans male/13/Bi)

When I came out I told my friend through text and she was really supportive. She gave me the courage to speak to my parents, who then fully accepted me — I’m now fully out (to everyone) and I couldn’t be happier. (M/13/Bisexual)

When I came out I was 16. I wasn’t sure how to tell my girlfriend I no longer had feelings for her. But I did and I think that my real love was fueled by a guy at my new job. His name was Leroy and I knew he was the one. (17/Homosexual)
