Story #2564

When I came out, it was through text to my dad. I had been “out” to my friends in school, but never came out until that day. I was on vacation with my mom and built up the courage to send a coming out text to my dad. He was supportive, and we spoke more about it when I came back, but I made the mistake of saying I wasn’t bothered by my birth name and she/her (true) so now I have to build up the courage (and grow an year older, he said I was probably too young to be sure, which hurt a little, but he’s trying) to ask him to call me by my new name and pronouns and get a binder lol (Demiboy trans FtM/13/Omni/demiromantic)

Story #2555

When I came out I was 16 or 17 my parents were super religious and conservative, and I never felt like a girl. All my friends were a bit edgy about me being trans and being bisexual; that was because I went to a Christian school where there were only a few queers. The only one who supported me was my teacher, because she had two sons: one was trans, like me, and the other was pansexual. The teacher was very kind and she was like a second mom to me. I transitioned and received top surgery two and a half years ago and kept my female organs because I wanted to hold a child. (Transgender Male/FtM/24/Bisexual)

Story #2534

When I came out, two of my friends knew that I was bi and one of them knew I was trans at the time. I created this “about me” test and the winner got money. I let my two friends take it first, and then THOUGHT I turned off the setting after that said “reveal correct answers”, but I obviously didn’t. So, I let my homophobic Christian friend take the quiz and WHAT DO YOU KNOW he submitted it and on the question that said, “What is your biggest secret?”, it said in big letters: “YOU’RE BI” and “YOU’RE NOT A GIRL”. I was so embarassed, I told him some of the answers were fakes the trick him but now every time I play a game with my friends, one of my friends always puts in as my name: “KJ LOVES AMITY” (from The Owl House, also, my fictional crush, another question on the quiz.) Well, there went my shot at my homophobic friend believing me! (M/12/Biromantic/asexual/FtM)

Story #2498

When I came out as trans at 10 years old, my mom told me that I was just depressed. I had recently had an early start to puberty, and my developing chest had inspired a new and profoundly dysphoric discomfort with my body. Because I had never met another trans person, never heard of it being a possibility, I didn’t have the words to fully describe what I was feeling, and as a result I wasn’t able to properly express what I was experiencing. She told me that everyone hates themselves during puberty and it was just a combination of my hormones and my genetic predisposition to mental illness. It would pass, she said. I was wrong, she said. I went back into the closet for another two years, and when I tried to refind my identity I remembered what she said and for a long, long time I was so afraid of being wrong that I refused to admit I was a man. I cycled through a million identities, sets of pronouns, before I finally decided that no one knew me better than me and announced to the world at 16 that I was a man and nothing was going to change that. My mom came around eventually and now I’m 18 and 5 months on hormones. Things got better, but it was hard. (FtM/18)

Story #2496

When I came out, I was probably around 10-13. I first came out as bisexual, which I was wrong, girls suck (not all girls), then came to terms with being transgender at the age of 13, though I had to hide it. Mom found out by looking through my messages. Even now as an FTM she still uses “god sees it as a sin.” I recently came out to most teachers and have a supportive teacher. Some still want to force me in the box/force me to come out in documents. I am proud to say that I’m gay. (Transgender male/17/DemiGay polyamorous)

Story #2492

When I came out to my boyfriend and my friends, I told my friend on the way back from the ren fair. I told him I am a man and my preferred name and he was happy for me!! :DDDD and Then I told my boyfriend over text that I am a man and he was fine with it cause he’s pansexual. I recently got a binder and I am going to wait to tell my parents :DD (FtM/14/Bisexual)

Story #2445

When I came out it was to my mom. I told her that I wish I was born as a boy and how I hated myself for being and seen as a girl. My mom was very disappointed at me and told me I will never be one and always be a girl and how I have to wear dresses and skirts in school. She told me that she doesn’t support and included God, that God won’t support people like these and how they will get blind, get cancer, and also deaf. COVID-19 too. (Male FtM/13/Gay)

Story #2437

When I came out it was online. My online friend asked me if we can voice rev and I said sure. I didn’t know what to do because I am FTM trans and my voice sounds like a girl (I haven’t started T yet) and I was struggling on what to do. I tried to deepen my voice but I was afraid it wouldn’t work out and I accidentally blurted out, “Ah sh*t” because I thought I was on mute but sadly I wasn’t. I immediately left the call. I was panicking out, then a minute later he said, “Your voice sounds like a girl. Are you secretly a girl or nah?” and I went like, “Oh f*ck I went way way wrong,” so I just told him that I was trans. This is possibility the dumbest way I came out by accident. (Male FtM/13)

Story #2429

When I came out I was 20/21 and my parents were very accepting of me. But I have friends who are very supportive of me and call me by my gender correct name, which is cool. I am now known as Jay. (M/42/FtM)

Story #2408

When I came out I was 10/11 and my friends were very supportive because most of them were allies/part of lgbtq. I was always kind of jealous of my brother but I never knew why. When I was 9 I came out to my parents as lesbian. I kept switching through genders and
sexualities and my friends/parents were tired of it. That’s when I started becoming depressed. When I started middle school I was still lesbian and going by they/she/he. I felt confident, until I started questioning my gender when I met this person, Mason. He was ftm and really made a mark on me. Eventually I cut my hair and felt so much better about my gender after I got my binder and I’m happily a boy now! (FtM/11/Aroace/questioning)
