When I Came Out

When I came out, I came out on Valentines Day of 2016. I told my family during dinner and said, “I’m bisexual.” It couldn’t have gone better. They were so supportive of me and they said they loved me no matter what, and they haven’t treated me any differently. I’m so happy.

When I came out, I spelled it on a Scrabble board. My mom looked up at me and said, “Well, are we going to play Scrabble?”

When I came out as a lesbian at 17 to my mom she hugged me and told me she loves me no matter what and just wants me happy. She said she had a feeling I was gay because I NEVER asked her about boys.

When I came out as bi it was not by my choice. Someone I was dating got upset when I wanted to end it and outed me to all my friends and family. Fortunately not too many people cared and it ended up being OK. Unfortunately people can be cruel…

When I came out, I was 30, and it was the most confusing process I’d ever been through. Friends froze me out and then blamed me for disappearing, and I was an outcast at church for quite some time. Through the difficult times, my wife just kept asking, “But isn’t this person worth it?” Two years later, I’m married to the woman of my dreams, and my relationships are starting to repair.

When I came out my mom thought I was joking. My mom said she would still love me no matter what. I love my mom.

When I came out I had gotten the reaction I was expecting from my grandmother (mother deceased), just bad and Christian conservative. But from the rest of everyone I knew it went smoothly. I was 13 at the time and telling your grandma (mom figure) that you like girls just doesn’t end well. Now I am 21 and married to a man and life couldn’t be anymore confusing.

When I came out as lesbian to my friends, they said, “Tori, we wouldn’t care if you dated aliens, we’ll always love you. Now go get us some food.”

When I came out for the first time to my friends I wrote about it here so now I’m telling you guys that I came out to my sister. Here is how it happened.

Me: I’m bi.
Her: No you’re not
Me: Yes I am
Her: Are you sure?
Me: Yeah

After that we just both went back to what we were doing. She hasn’t mentioned it since.

When I came out to my mom and my sister, they both were surprised about it, but, thank goodness, were very accepting and supportive. Me and my mom were crying a lot on the phone, lol. They both just wanted for me to finally be happy and to enjoy my life. Being a shy introvert, I feel very proud.
