When I Came Out

When I came out my mom and dad brought me up a glass of wine to toast to my lesbian-ism.

When I came out to my friend Brian he didn’t believe me at first since I joke around a lot. It wasn’t until I offered to show him my internet history that he realized I wasn’t kidding, and he was totally fine with it.

When I came out to my two best friends as bi, they said, “Wow…” “Well, that just opens SO many more options for you” “Not just these jerks you’ve been talking to”. They were so supportive I cried at how grateful I am to have them.

When I came out, I was 16 years old on National Coming Out Day. I first told my best friend I was bisexual and he was accepting, then my mom. She wasn’t surprised and told me she loves me the same.

When I came out in middle school to a handful of my friends it went great, but then I was sent to a homophobic all-boys Catholic high school and barely anyone there knows. I’m basically in the closet again and it sucks.

When I came out as bisexual, it was to my closest friend. Her first reaction was “okay”, though she stopped talking to me for about a week. Though, she quickly came round to the fact and is quite supportive now.

When I came out it was an accident. We were playing truth or dare. I got asked what my darkest secret was. I blurted out I was gay then ran back in the closet and said I did it to see their reactions *sigh*

When I came out to my parents as bi, I had my boyfriend stand with me as I handed them a letter. At first they thought I was dumping him and hooking up with my friend. They told me not to tell my brother and haven’t mentioned it since.

When I came out as bi, it was an enrichment day at my secondary school. The day was dedicated to sexual education, and when my closest friend brought up the topic of sexual attraction I came out to her. I was aiming to try and make it as little a big deal as possible, but I freaked out and then rambled to her about how I still preferred women, but I liked men also. She, at first, showed little reaction but stopped talking to me for about a week. She has no problem with me being bisexual, and is in fact rather supportive, but was somewhat thrown by the news.

When I came out, it was more of a “finally” moment for my family, but it still took time for the parents to adjust, since we’re Catholic, and my brother had come out a couple years prior. Six years later, my mom calls my girlfriend of over four years to remind me to get things for her at the store.
